Alfarnate is located in
province of Malaga,
autonomous community of Andalusia. It is sheltered between the mountains in the extreme north west of the Axarquía region, 50 kilometers from
Malaga, at 925 metres above the sea level.
The name
Alfarnate origins from the Arab Al-farnat, which means flour-mill. The first written reference to the town dates from the 10th century.
There are few hills in
Alfarnate. The buildings are usually of two storeys, and most are whitewashed.
