Municipality Benissa is an administrative unit in Province Alicante.
Benissa is a municipality from the Spanish province of Alicante (in Valencian community). It is situated on the Costa Blanca, on the windy coastal road between Valencia and Alicante. It`s 4 kilometers of shoreline offers several beaches (both pebble and sandy ) such as La Fustera and Cala Pintes where watersports can be practiced.
The town of Benissa and the surrounding villages were founded by the Moors (name origin from Banu-Issa). After the Christian reconquest and the expulsion of the Moors in 1609 the town was settled by people from the Pirenees, Catalonia and Aragon. The medieval town centre has been largely preserved with it's ironwork balconies and heraldic shields.
Benissa is a popular torists destinations and there are hotels, hostels, rural accommodation and a camping site. A notable building is the Palacio de los Torres-Orduña, now a cultural centre and library.
