Municipality Alcoy is located in Valencian Community and is part of province of Alicante. The town is crossed by Serpis river.

There are traces of life in the region dated back to the Neanderthals. A site with rock paintings, dating to c. 10,000/6,500 years ago, has been discovered near la Sarga.

Nowadays Alcoy has an important industry related to textile, paper, food and metal.
