Municipality Peniscola is located in autonomous community of Valencian Community, Spain. It is one of the biggest tourist centers in the province of Castellon. Its splendid location, Spanish Mediterranean style architecture, excellent food and good hotels attract many tourists. There are many good beaches and coves nearby that make Peñíscola very popular in the summer.

The main town attraction is Peñíscola castle, built on a mound, reminding of the age of knights and battlement-ed fortresses that occupied the lands of Maestrazgo.
In the 13th century the Pope Benedict, nicknamed "Moon Pope", chose this castle to shut himself away and fight for the unity of the Catholic Church.
